ConCarolinas Costume Contest

ConCarolinas Costume Contest

Saturday evening, we will present our Costume Contest. The contest is open to all age groups, and prizes will be awarded.

Costume Contest Rules

  1. All entrants must be registered for the con on the day of the contest. No badge = no entry.
  2. This contest is open to all costumes, both individual and group. Original costumes are welcome.
  3. All costumes and presentations must be family friendly. Anything overly suggestive will be barred from the contest. If you are not sure if your costume or performance is acceptable, you can email Morgan (contest coordinator or CCC) at morganskye@gmail.com If you are denied entry you may request a second opinion.
  4. There are only 30 spots available for the contest. No walk-on`s will be allowed. Groups count as one entry.
  5. There will be a check-in before the contest. The location and time will be listed with the sign-up sheet by con registration. If you are late then you are out!!
  6. There are three categories. Novice, Journeyman, and Craftsman.
    1. Novice: Entrant has won no major awards.
    2. Journeyman: Entrant has won four or fewer major awards.
    3. Craftsman: Entrant has won five or more awards.
  7. Awards will be given in each category as well as a Best Performance and Best in Show. These awards may change at any time without warning.
  8. Prizes are per entry, not per entrant. Groups count as one entry, and are responsible for dividing up their gift.
  9. The CCC reserves the right to move anyone into another category as they see fit so long as there is a valid reason. You have the right to request a second opinion if you feel that you don`t belong in your new category should you be moved.
  10. Purchased and professionally made costumes are ineligible for craftsmanship judging HOWEVER they may be used in a skit for Best Performance.
  11. We ask contestants that have costumes that have been entered more than 3 times at ConCarolinas or have won at ConCarolinas with their costume in the past, to please retire that particular costume from competition, barring any MAJOR improvements or additions.
  12. Reference pictures of your costume are not required but they are highly recommended. Pictures of your work-in-progress are also valued!
  13. Any improper skits, profanity, actions, or otherwise bad behavior will have you bounced faster than you can say dodgeball.
  14. Participants must stay within the contest area (either the stage area or green room). Leaving the contest area before the presentation of awards without informing the CCC will result in an automatic forfeit.
  15. ConCarolinas staff reserves the right to change these rules, the awards, and their associated prizes (should there be any) when ever necessary.

Tips:

  • Check over your costume before you leave for the con. Make a list of the parts, or put the whole thing on before you pack. Missing pieces, like hats, shoes, or props can really count against you.
  • Get to the contest site early if you can.
  • Do not forget the little things. If you`re wearing a period costume, take off your watch. Pay attention to what make-up your character wears, or what style of hair they wear.
