Fan Guest of Honor

Janine Spendlove ~First Time Guest~

Janine K. Spendlove has been a "geek" for pretty much as long as she can remember. She and her little brothers used to play "Star Wars" as kids, and when she was in high school she'd put her hair up in a different Princess Leia 'do each day and wear it to school.

She was also into costuming from a very early age. She made her first costume, a wedding dress, at the age of 6, out of printer paper (yay for dot matrix printers that provided nice lengths of connected paper that worked as "fabric) and tape. She progressed to using actual fabric a few years later, and many years later, when the new Star Wars films came out decided she simply MUST have a Jedi costume. It did not stop there, and in her early 20s, she found herself making all sorts of costumes from different fandoms (LOTR, Harry Potter, Superheros, etc).

She's won several costume contests (including Best in Show in 2004 and 2005 at ConCarolinas), and eventually was invited to be a costume guest at different conventions.

From 2003-2005 she, along with her husband Ron Garner, were also co-hosts of Requiem of the Outcast (hosted by podcasting's Rich Sigfrit), and she was a guest for the very first time at any convention at ConCarolinas 2005.

She has since written several short stories that have been published in various anthologies, and also published her first novel, War of the Seasons, book 1: The Human in June 2011. Though she has been a guest at many conventions since her first ConCarolinas, she is thrilled and honored to be coming back to ConCarolinas as it feels like coming "home."

In her spare time she flies KC-130s as an active duty United States Marine, runs marathons, knits, plays Beatle songs on her guitar, and spends time with her husband and daughter at their home in Maryland.

She's currently at work on her next novel. Find out more at www.WarOfTheSeasons.Com.
